It's officially fall!

And with that, means all of my favorite fall activities! Apple picking, hayrides, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, apple pies, hoodies, hot chocolate,...I can go on and on. So far this fall we've visited Beak and Skiff Orchards in LaFayette and Abbott Farms in Baldwinsville. Here's a photo explosion of fun from those days!

Until next year....

Apple Crisp

It was 9:31pm on a cool, crisp fall night. The windows were open, and I was under the covers watching my usual Bravo show when my first fall craving hit me....apple crisp....mmmm....apple crisp. Lucky for us we had visited the apple orchard on Sunday, so we had a nice bag of  fresh apples just waiting to be used....one minute later I was in the kitchen throwing together this delicious treat. When Tony got home from work, he woke me up to tell me, and I quote, "Oh my God, the house smells amazing". Well, the apple crisp tasted amazing too!

Here's the recipe I used.....good old Betty Crocker to the rescue....

Ingredients

4-7 apples, sliced
3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose flower
1/2 cup oats
1/3 cup of butter, softened
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Ice cream (if you want)

  • 1Heat oven to 375ºF. Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with shortening.
  • 2Spread apples in pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients except cream until well mixed; sprinkle over apples.
  • 3Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with cream.

Back to SCHOOL!

A week from today school starts,...and with the start of over new year comes complete chaos. McKenzie starts  preschool three days a week for a few hours each day,... Riley starts her two year old nursery school program twice a week and the girls will be in a variety of other extra activities including storytime and indoor soccer. Needless to say we are busy, and with two kids attending school now, I needed to figure out a way to keep things organized, for them and our sanity. Here are some neat things I found on Pinterest.com that I am going to try to help us all keep on track this year.

Here is to an ORGANIZED and STRESS FREE 2012-2013 school year.....

To keep it easy in the mornings when things are most hectic, clothes can be planned out for the week....
that means pants, shirts, socks, shoes and hair accessories all together in one easy place to find.

I'd LOVE to have a work station like this, but we don't have the room for it. But my fridge WILL look something like a mixture of the following pictures to keep homework, paperwork, and permission slips organized for each kid.

And for sure this year I am adding shelving to our living room so we can finally display some of the girls' art work. Will love the change of art with each season.

And....drum roll please...here are the backpacks for the girls this year. How fun are they!? I couldn't resist the "Mackenzie" collection from Potterybarnkids.com. Purple butterflies for Kenz...and Pink owls for Riley. Could these bags fit their personalities ANY better? It's like they were designed specifically for them!
